The lobed border of each scroll-footed dish is molded with diaper pattern cartouches within C-scroll rims, raised on four scroll feet and the center is filled with a mass of brightly colored flowers including a pink rose, blue morning glories, daisies, apple blossoms and other flowers, the reverse with a sprig of forget-me-nots. Crossed swords mark in underglazed-blue is on the reverse. This flattering pair of Trompe l’Oeil dishes is the English Rococo revival style, which is from about 1820 after its original Rococo style came to England from France in the 1730s. English companies such as Minton and Coalport catered for the enthusiasm for eighteenth-century porcelain of French and German factories such as Sevres and Meissen, with their swirling forms and bright sugary colors.
